“Mr. Chameleon” was written through a series of inspirations starting with an idea my 9th grade choral director had for an Accapella piece for our annual Accapella festival. He presented Herbie Hancock's “Chameleon” bass line and asked if anyone were interested in writing lyrics to go along with the line that we, as a select choir, could sing. And with songwriting being my niche, I jumped on the opportunity and wrote the start of the song that evening. I took inspiration of the “Chameleon” bass line - in a literal sense you could say because of what turned out to be “Mr. Chameleon”, however it ended up transforming into a lyrical metaphor for a man of many personalities, which I think a lot of people can relate to.
